Creative Ads

Many have argued that the effectiveness of advertising on traditional media is declining. Perhaps it is true to a certain extent but looking at these creative ads, there is definitely lot of unexplored potential in traditional media that can still generate buzz and word of mouth. How i wish that we have more of such creative ads in Singapore.

Pulling a fast one

I just read an article with LTA tsaying that the traffic flow has improve with the 5 new ERP gantries. Since they are at it, why not double the ERP rates again and setup another 10 more ERP gantries in the city? I am sure you can further improve the traffic flow and reduce the traffic volume!

The LTA statement is unbelievably shallow. What i like to know is how does these measures solve the transport issues in Singapore on the whole? Did the new gantries resulted in more people taking the "public" transport or did they simply shift the problem by causing traffic congestions in other areas?

The couple

A great commercial summarizing the evolvement of the relationship between today’s advertisers and today’s consumers. It is the evolvement from traditional one way communication to a more engaging dialog with today’s consumers. By the way, the commercial is for Microsoft Digital Advertising Solutions. It is great to see that they are willing to challenge and question themselves as advertisers about the way they communicate with their target consumers.

The right balance

Despite the desire to maintain a personal blog, it is really tough to do it considering I am also maintaining another blog

I tried Blogger. It is too much work when it comes to post with images and videos. It just seem to take to many steps for a personal blog.

I tried Tumblr. It is much simpler. Yet somehow it feels like there is a lot of tradeoff in exchange for simplicity. There is no comment feature unless you install a hack. In the end, the simplicity factor is not enough to justify the constraints faced when using the platform.

I love Twitter if not for the annoying frequent downtime. I am totally sold on Plurk for now for it good response. Nevertheless the 140 character limit really do limit what you can do with it.

Posterous has definitely strike the right balance for me. Using email for posting is really intuitive and simple. Yes, much simpler than Tumblr! What set it apart is its ability to analyze the content and “intelligently” present it. The simplicity of using it more than make up for the lack of flexibility and I think they really nail it with an excellent commenting system. Something that Tumblr still fails to provide even though it is a already version 3!

Yes, I think I found the perfect balance blogging platform for me and I definitely hope to see more great stuffs on this platform.

Where do you want to go?

The Cat only grinned when it saw Alice. It looked good- natured, she thought: still it had VERY long claws and a great many teeth, so she felt that it ought to be treated with respect. `Cheshire Puss,' she began, rather timidly, as she did not at all know whether it would like the name: however, it only grinned a little wider.

"Come, it's pleased so far," thought Alice, and she went on. "Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"

"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.

"I don't much care where…" said Alice.

"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.

"…so long as I get SOMEWHERE," Alice added as an explanation.

"Oh, you're sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."

On game theory

The below quote nicely sums up the essence of game theory.

"If the Mexico support program had gone bad, I would have still said it was the right thing to do. But it was judged successful because it worked. I don't think that's actually the way it should have be judged. It should have been judged based on whether it was the right judgment in our national interest in terms of everything that could be known at that time. Focusing on the results rather than good decision making is what is wrong in Washington, for it deters people from acting optimally." - Robert Rubin, Previous US Secretary of Treasury
