Shop & Dine at SMRT?
I was at the train station and saw a commuter being reprimanded by the station staffs for drinking in the station. Amusingly, there was a long stretch of posters promoting shopping and dining at SMRT just right at the side.

Blood cockles is one of my favorite food. When I am feeling down, a
plate of cockles and a bottle of tiger is all I need to cheer me up.
When I am happy, cockles and beer is a good way to celebrate.
One of my favorite way of preparing cockles is to marinate them with
dark soy sauce.Although it looks like a simple dish, there is still
quite a bit of work to prepare it. So today I share with you this
delicious way of preparing cockles.
Blood Cockles Recipe
1. Buy some fresh cockles from the supermarket.
2. Give it a good scrub to make sure that it is clean.
3. Chop some chili padi into small bits.
4. Finely chop some garlic
5. Set the water to boil
6. Once the water is boiling, dump all the cockles into the hot water
7. Immediately scoop them up
8. Open the cockles into half.
9. Add a dash of Chinese cooking wine.
10. Add in the garlic and chili padi.
11. Add in the dark soy sauce.
12. Mixed well and chill it.
13. Enjoy it!
The recipe is pretty simple though the scrubbing and opening of the
cockles require some work. Cooking the cockles is also not as easy as
it seems. Most people tend to overcook them.
The trick is to make sure the you have sufficient water and it is
boiling before putting in the cockles. Once the you in the cockles,
you must immediately scoop them up. If the water is hot enough, this
short moment is already adequate to cook the cockles and make them easy
for opening.
The cockles that were prepared this time round were really great. They
are wickedly disgusting but yet such a bloody delight! So do give this
recipe a try and I believe you would love it too!

There are many ways I waste my time. It is either twittering or facebooking. For this week, I am infected with Mum's addiction of watching HK drama serial. I wondered how many countless of nights that we stay till wee hours just to watch 溏心風暴. We finally put a stop to the addiction as we finished the last episode at 2.30 in the morning today.
It is a damn good drama series. Great cast, superb storyline, full of emotions and a good dose of battles between the good and evil doers. Of course not forgetting that Linda Cheung is simply gorgeous in this show!
Some of the songs in the show were really nice especially the song "My love will get you home" by Christine Glass.
No doubt I wasted lots of hours in this show but hey at least the time is spent on mum instead of Facebook.

I read an article from Today that list the top habits that Singaporeans find most annoying in public and the results are as follow:

The Crisis of Credit Visualized by Johnathan Jarvis is the best presentation that I have seen that clearly explains how we get into the current economic mess. The great use of graphics and animations by the designers simplifies the whole compex situtation into something that everyone can understand.
One part that I think was run through too quickly was the leveraging aspect. Leveraging in general isn't a bad thing for businesses.
The issue in this case is that there is over leverage and the money is used on investments that are so complicately packaged that it is not possible to really understand the risks involved. The system also allows banks to borrow or lend an enormous amount of money since they are required to keep a tiny fraction of their reserves as cash, with the rest availble for loan. For more details on this, Chris Martenson page provides a great deal of information.
The government has been trying to help by putting in more credit into the system. I really wonder how long they can keep at this. The mess is created by the so called "smart talented" people but yet everyone got dragged into it. Sometime knowing how to do something may not be as important as knowing the right thing to do.

Wealth without work,
Pleasure without conscience,
Knowledge without character,
Commerce without morality,
Science without humanity,
Worship without sacrifice,
Politics without principles.

I just don't get it. Why do some people like to keep on bitching about chope-ing of seats using packets of tissue papers? What is wrong about it?
It reminds me of the other silly campaign where we are deem ungracious for not clearing the table after use. People don't clear trays simply because the infrastructure weren't designed for it. There isn't any collection system nor are patrons expected to clear the trays.
What has it got to do with being gracious? Should I offer to wash the dishes as wel l next time after my meals to show my super graciousness?

On Saturday, I watched the movie Slumdog Millionaire. It is a really great movie. I really enjoy the way the director tells the story. It also provide an interesting perspective about the growth of India.
On Sunday, I went to a shop opening celebration. My cousin had decided to start up a business that offers both the retailing of organic food as well as cooking classes based on such products.
For a moment, I find the world that we live in is really ironic. In one extreme we have children in the slums with nothing much to eat and have to content with a tough environment. On the other end, we have people who are so well off that they have the means to choose what they eat and to the extent specify how the food is produced.
The human species is supposely the most advanced species on Earth. Despite years of existance, discovery of new technologies and advances in communication, the diverse difference in living standards still exist. For most of us, we can easily turn a blind eye to the sufferings around us without much thought.
Is the human species as great as we think it is? Are we an intelligent species or are we simply a higher form of parasite? Or perhaps this is a reflection of Darwin theory where only the fittest survive. Is the human species meant to progress together as a whole or perhaps behind the facade of compassion, kindness and conciousness, we are simply a collection of different parasites species, willing to "kill" one another in order to satisfy our own needs.
Anyway I don't even know why I am even writing all this. I think I just need to get some sleep.
Most of us don't deserve the great opportunities we have, or the lucky breaks that got us here. The question shouldn't be, do you deserve it." I think it should be, "what are you going to do with it now that you've got it?"

Now I know why the train to work is so bloody pack every morning. Accordingly to the news, the operating standard for crowd limit is 5 persons per square metre. I think the LTA must be giving themselves a pat on their back because currently it is only AVERAGE 4 passengers per square metre. As usual, one can see the smart use of various numbers to convey how the current situation isn't that bad.
Trains not overcrowded. Persons per square metre only half the limits compared to operating standard.

I had dinner yesterday with my wife at a coffeeshop. We ordered 2 dishes at a zi char store that is suppose to cost $8 each. When the dishes came, we were ask to pay and the bill came up to $21 order inclusive of the rice.
It turns out that the store is charging $2 extra for each dish all the way till Sunday because of the Chinese New Year. I did not argue and simply paid the extra charges. I must be quite retarded in my reaction because the more I eat, the more pissed off I become.
I mean if there is an additional charge, consumers should be informed first. I thought it might be my mistake and had missed the notice. At the end of the dinner, I went to the store to search for the notice. There was none and I give the business owner a piece of my mind. He apologized and give some excuses that the staff forget to inform me.
I am really pissed that some businesses can be so dishonest and try to pull off stunts like this. It is alright if businesses want to make extra money because somehow they think that operating during CNY period entitles them to doing it. At least be upfront and honest about it rather than trying to pull a fast one. Furthermore, isn't the CNY a good time to establish goodwill with your customers instead of trying to rip them off?
To be honesty is important in the way you conduct business. Is my thinking too outdated in this times where money seems to be more important than integrity?
With that said, I am also pissed with myself. Don't know retarded or what, I obediently paid without any resistance. If I don't even know how to fight for what is right, who can I blame.

After the reunion dinner, my partners and I decided to meet up for some board gaming fun.
Tonight session was really good as we brought along one of best games in the year of 2008, Agricola. We seldom have the time to sit down and play games together and Agricola did not disappoint as we engage in an intense battle of wits for over 2 hours. It was really tough trying to manage all the different elements of the game. You need to plant crops, rearing animals, grow your family and at the same time ensuring that all your family members are adequately fed.
Evelyn won with a whopping 48 points while the rest of us are barely over 20 points! It was simply one of the best gaming session that I had for a long time. Everyone of us had been busy with our own stuffs that we did not really get together for a long time. The past year had also not been easy for the business and working together with each other when we are both good friends and business partners can be challenging at times.
Despite the ups and downs, nothing can be happier than the fact that the team is still togeher, enjoying the simple joys of board gaming. Like what I always say,
"Folks that play together, stay together."
