Dishonesty
I had dinner yesterday with my wife at a coffeeshop. We ordered 2 dishes at a zi char store that is suppose to cost $8 each. When the dishes came, we were ask to pay and the bill came up to $21 order inclusive of the rice.
It turns out that the store is charging $2 extra for each dish all the way till Sunday because of the Chinese New Year. I did not argue and simply paid the extra charges. I must be quite retarded in my reaction because the more I eat, the more pissed off I become.
I mean if there is an additional charge, consumers should be informed first. I thought it might be my mistake and had missed the notice. At the end of the dinner, I went to the store to search for the notice. There was none and I give the business owner a piece of my mind. He apologized and give some excuses that the staff forget to inform me.
I am really pissed that some businesses can be so dishonest and try to pull off stunts like this. It is alright if businesses want to make extra money because somehow they think that operating during CNY period entitles them to doing it. At least be upfront and honest about it rather than trying to pull a fast one. Furthermore, isn't the CNY a good time to establish goodwill with your customers instead of trying to rip them off?
To be honesty is important in the way you conduct business. Is my thinking too outdated in this times where money seems to be more important than integrity?
With that said, I am also pissed with myself. Don't know retarded or what, I obediently paid without any resistance. If I don't even know how to fight for what is right, who can I blame.
